There is only before and after the ocean in Chile. It is an amazing gift to be with my lifelong studio mates at Curaumilla Art Center in Chile for two weeks as a guest artist. This place is magic. These people are magic. I will love them both forever. We talked non-stop about awe, engaged in deep and slow encounters with plants, animals, rocks, and water, and remembered the indelible mark we have left on each other in our 30 years of working together. Equal parts art making and eating and dancing. All inspiring.
2022 filming in the Panama Canal
As part of my Survival project, I filmed in the Panama Canal. Thank goodness for my family for being sailing, filming, and critiquing crew. The video snippet is my kiddo’s behind-the-scenes and a shot of us reviewing the behind-the-scenes. The actual video is part of Survival Training and the Darwin Project. Seeing the size, number, and orchestration of the barges contextualized Kathryn Schulzs article in the New Yorker, “When Shipping Containers Sink in the Drink.”
Drive In
Yoo Hoo! My project Dive In is under way with funding from the Tennessee Arts Commission Individual Artist Fellowship, Ann and Steve Bailey Opportunity Grant and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, College Award for New Research, Scholarly and Creative Projects in the Arts & Humanities. Here are a few action shots of a shoot with special thanks to Donna Moore, Veronica Ludlow, April Martin and the Parkway Drive-in.
